About Tom
Tom Benko is a Chicagoland drummer, educator, composer, and freelancer. As the Director of Percussion for New Trier and Highland Park High Schools, he oversees sectionals, drumline, private lessons, ensembles, and pep band. Each spring, he co-curates the NorthShore Percussion Fest, offering students opportunities to learn from professionals. Tom's performance background includes 11 years as a drummer and trainer for Blue Man Group Chicago, as well as performances with the Chicago Bears Drumline and Chicago Bulls Stampede. He co-founded The Rhythm Messengers, creating custom drum performances for corporate and private events. Since 2015, Tom has led Emanation, a Chicago music series promoting collaboration across genres. He remains an active freelancer and performer.
